Applications for Radiant Heated Driveways and Snow Melting Systems

Radiant Heated Driveways, Sidewalks, Ramps, Steps, and more in all Types of Mediums

Heated paver steps and walkway after a snowstorm.

Warmzone heated driveways and snow melting systems can be installed to provide radiant heating for almost any size and shape of driveway. The rugged design of the ClearZone heating cable allows the cable to withstand the stress of concrete pours as well as the extreme temperatures of new asphalt driveways. ClearZone snow melting systems are easy to install, and offer premium, maintenance-free performance. Warmzone carries both low- and line-voltage electric snow melting systems. The electric ClearZone snow melting system is designed to produce 37 to 50 watts per square foot and features a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

All ClearZone radiant heat systems require a control unit that sends power to the heating cable. A certified electrician is required to hook up power / wire the system, but the rest of the install can be performed by an ambitions homeowner or contractor. Cold leads are wired to the control unit and then run to the location of the radiant heating cable. The cold leads (come pre-spliced) are spliced to the heating cable, and the cable is laid out over the driveway or walkway to be heated. The rugged design and long life of the ClearZone system make it a popular radiant heat solution for a dynamic variety of applications, ranging from heated driveways and walkways to patios, steps, ramps, loading docks, dog kennels, and more.

Concrete - New Pour

Concrete is an excellent application for the ClearZone snow melting system. The ClearZone radiant heat system is designed to produce a minimum of 30 watts per square foot. Remesh is laid down and then the cable is secured to the remesh with zip ties, spaced at 3 to 6-inch intervals. The ClearZone system can be customized to heat any size or shape of driveway, sidewalk, parking lot, patio, etc. The features of the ClearZone system make it the perfect fit for heating residential and commercial driveways and various other radiant heating applications. The ClearZone radiant heat system is completely automated and has no moving parts, making it an excellent, durable solution for all snow and ice melting applications. Once installed, this electric snow melting solution is virtually maintenance free.

Asphalt - New

A special ClearZone cable is available for installation in hot asphalt applications. The ClearZone cable's high quality and durable makeup allow it to withstand the extreme temperatures and compression of newly poured asphalt (460°F (240°C) for up to 10 minutes). The radiant heating cable is laid out on the base surface (usually compacted sand), and the asphalt is hand shoveled onto the cable and base surface. Insulation is always recommended, but not required. One-inch rigid insulation can be installed underneath the base surface, or the insulation can be laid on the base surface and the heating cable can then be secured on top of the insulation.

Asphalt - Retrofit Installation (Repave)

The ClearZone snow melting system is not limited to being installed only in new driveways or sidewalks. If you have an existing asphalt driveway and intend to repave it, then you can retrofit your driveway with radiant heat. The ClearZone cable needs to be embedded under about 2-inches of asphalt. The heating cable is secured to the existing asphalt with clips and nails, and then the new asphalt is hand shoveled onto the existing driveway and cable. The ClearZone system is simple to install and provides the best performance for heating asphalt driveways.

Brick and Stone Paver Installation

A heated paver driveway after a snowstorm.

ClearZone radiant heating systems are one of the most effective systems for heating brick and stone pavers, and installing a snow melting system under pavers is one of the easiest radiant heat installation methods. The heating cable is simply laid out on the base surface, covering the area to be heated, and the pavers are installed as normal over the cables. The ClearZone snow melting system can be installed easily under any type of pavers. Because the cable has been tested and approved for wet conditions, it can come in contact with moisture without its performance being affected.

Warmzone radiant heat systems are reliable and very versatile. In addition to being installed in a wide variety of mediums, the systems can also be easily customized to meet your specific layout and budget.
