Radiant Heat Snow Melting Installation and Applications

Danfoss GX radiant heating mat offers simple installation for heated driveways, walkways and other snow melting applications.
Warmzone radiant heat snow melting systems can be installed to provide radiant heating for almost any size and shape of driveway. The rugged design of the Danfoss GX heating cable allows the durable cable to be installed in concrete-pours and new asphalt driveways. These reliable radiant heating products are easy to install and offer premium, maintenance-free performance. Warmzone carries both low- and line-voltage electric snow melting systems. The electric Danfoss GX snow melt system is designed to produce 30+ watts per square foot and features a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

All Danfoss GX radiant heat systems require a control unit that sends power to the heating cable. A certified electrician is required to hook up power to the control unit, but the rest of the system can be installed by any contractor. Cold leads are wired to the control unit and then run to the location of the radiant heating cable. The cold leads (come pre-spliced) are spliced to the heating cable, and the cable is laid out over the driveway or walkway to be heated. The rugged design and long life of the GX cable make it a popular radiant heat solution for a dynamic variety of applications, ranging from heated driveways and walkways to patios, dog kennels and more.

Concrete - New Pour

Concrete is another great application for the Danfoss GX snow melting system. The GX radiant heat system is designed to produce a minimum of 30 watts per square foot. The heating cable is secured to the remesh with wire ties and spaced at 3 to 6-inch intervals. The GX cable can be customized to heat any size or shape of driveway, sidewalk, parking lot, patio, etc. The features of the GX system make it the perfect fit for heating residential and commercial driveways and various other radiant heating applications. Once installed, this radiant snowmelt solution is virtually maintenance free. The GX radiant heat system is completely automated and has no moving parts, making it an excellent, durable solution for all snow and ice melting applications.

Asphalt - New

Because of the GX cable's high quality and durable makeup, it can withstand the heat and compression of newly poured asphalt. The radiant heating cable is laid out on the base surface (usually sand), and the asphalt is hand shoveled onto the cable and base surface. Insulation is always recommended, but not required. One inch rigid insulation can be installed underneath the base surface, or the insulation can be laid on the base surface and the heating cable can then be secured on top of the insulation.

Asphalt - repave

The GX radiant heating system is unique because it isn't limited to being installed in new driveways or sidewalks. If you have an existing asphalt driveway and intend to repave it, then you can retrofit your driveway with a state-of-the-art GX radiant heating system. The GX cable needs to be embedded under only ½-inch of asphalt. The heating cable is secured to the existing asphalt with clips and nails, and then the new asphalt is hand shoveled onto the existing driveway and cable. The Danfoss GX system is simple to install and provides the best performance for heating asphalt driveways.

Installing a radiant snowmelt system under brick pavers is simple and extremely effective.

pavers, and the easiest to install.

Brick Paver - Installation

GX radiant cable heating systems are the most effective systems for pavers, and installing a radiant snow melting system under brick pavers is one of the easiest radiant heat installation methods. The heating cable is simply laid out on the base surface, covering the area to be heated, and the pavers are installed as normal over the cables. The Danfoss GX heating system can be installed easily under any type of pavers. Because the cable has been tested and approved for wet conditions, the cable can come in contact with moisture without its performance being affected.
